Teams of Eight Debacles

Several matches suffered disruptions, resulting in boards being removed last Wednesday. This has happened on several occasions during this last season. The following  simple check list for team captains could eliminate practically all the problems. 1. Make sure you speak to the players at least 24 hours before the day (not just an answer phone). 2. Make sure all players know exactly where the venue is, and meet them at a known collection point if any doubts exist. 3. Ensure everyone has a contact phone number in case of accidents or emergencies.

I realize for most, it is either preaching to the converted or shutting the door after the horse has bolted, but a reminder could save other such frustrating evenings for many. Wendy

Last nights teams of 8 results

Congratulations to British Rail A and Rolls Royce A who both won 20-0.  A special mention is due to Derby C who took 3 vps from East Midlands White who have already won Division 1.

The current standings are:

Division 1 East Midlands White dominate with 165, followed by Briish Rail A on 114.  Derby A are lurking in 3rd place on 102 but they have a match in hand.

In Division 2, the situation is very close as only 4 vps separate the top 3 teams British Rail B (95), Ripley A (94) and Chesterfield A (91).  There are adjusted scores to be added to some of these totals, though.

Allestree Red lead Division 3 with 111 and Belper Yellow hold the second spot with 107.

In Division 4 Allestree Blue are lying in first place with 95, followed by Markeaton on 87.

It is still difficult to assess the situation in Division 5 owing to postponed matches, but the current leaders are Matlock B with 153 and Belper B with 130.

Adjusted Scores for Teams of Eight Matches

This is just to clarify how these adjustments are made.  If, for example, a match is called off at late notice because a player does not arrive within the time limits, that team is awarded zero victory points.  When all the results are in at the end of the season, the 'non-offending'  team receives either its own average or the reciprocal of their opponents' average,  whichever is the higher score.  In the meantime, I've put in a notional score of 10, but in most cases, this score goes up at the end of the season.
