Books, books, books

I am setting up a library of Bridge books at Spondon.  This will be kept on shelves in the lounge.  Everyone will be able to borrow books, keep them for a couple of weeks and return them.  Several people have already kindly donated some books for this, but if you have some Bridge books  to contribute, please pass them to me.

Do you believe in recycling?  I am also setting up a 'Second-hand bookshop'.  The main purpose for this is to raise some funds to help pay for the significant expenses and refurbishment that is taking place at the moment, including the purchase of a replacement glass-washer for the bar.  Please do a springclean of your bookshelves and see if you have any paperbacks you no  longer require.  These will be put on sale at the back of the main room.  You can then purchase any books you fancy for the princely price of 50p, all proceeds to EMBA.

Please pass your unwanted paperbacks to Mary (Marshall).

Old School EMBA XMAS Party

Wednesday's XMAS party was a big success, about 100 turning up for the excellent buffet and the follow-up bridge.

There were separate competitions for relative newcomers to the game and more experienced players.

Dave Marshall organised the novel newcomers event where the first placed prize winners were Mary Cater & Carole Eley with runners up Rob & Les Storey.  Third, was Jim Copson who gallantly declined his prize (as he was partnered by David Marshall), and fourth were Hilary & Anthony Tebbs.  Also in the prizes were joint fifth pairs Andrea & Geoff Hill, and Ken Callum & Ian Blake.

Adrian Pilling did his usual good job running the experienced event where North-South Pat Smith & Malcolm Caporn came out on top  with Richard Edwards & Ron McEwan as runners up while East-West winners were Margaret Watson & Dorothy Suter with runners up Mick Gavigan & Iris White.
