Summer Swiss - Round 8

The winners of the 8th round of the Summer Swiss were Sue Warr's team with an excellent 51 VPs out of a possible 60. June Lippitt's team were joint 2nd with Malcolm Young's on 45 VPs. 

Andy Wells continues to lead overall with 313 VPs, ahead of Brain Elliott on 300 VPs and Richard Edwards 273.

Two Counties Challenge - Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire

This Season's Two Counties Challenge began at Spondon on Thursday, 22nd July, 2010.

There was an excellent turnout, each county fielding 12 teams of four representing various Clubs in three divisions.

Gambit from Nottinghamshire comfortably won the 1st Division, Derby B the 2nd Division and Nottingham Mechanics the 3rd Division.

Derbyshire lead overall by 91 IMPs, after this first of three matches.

DCBA Ladies' Pairs

The Corry Cup for the DCBA's Ladies' Pairs has been won by Sheena Haytack & Mary Marshall. Runners up were Miranda Vinecombe & Margaret Pacey, only 1 MP behind. For all the scores,  click here

The Dodson Shield for the DCBA's 2010 Men's Pairs has been won by John Griffin & Don Smedley. Runners up were Roger Mallinson & Ron McEwan. For all the scores,  click here

Green Point Events at Spondon

I was hoping to be able to report the usual Derbyshire successes in The July Green Point Events. However, you have to be a real fan to rejoice this time.

Derbyshire 3rd Team collects two Trophies!

Derbyshire's 3rd Team are Division 3 League Champions for the 2009/2010 Season. 

After collecting the Markham Trophy as Midland's League Champions, they were up against winners of the other regional leagues and overcame Merseyside & Cheshire, Cornwall, Essex and Berks & Bucks to claim the overall Trophy.

Vic Morris Competition

Round 3 of the Vic Morris was scheduled for Wednesday, July 7th.

In the Cup, Elliott beat Watson, but the McEwan/Briggs match was postponed.

In the Plate, Beale beat Floutier, but the Edwards/Clayton match was postponed.

Smedley Salver 2010

The 2nd Round of the Summer Pairs was won by new entrants Pym Berry & Richard Edwards with 63.69%.  Roger Mallinson & Ron McEwan  were once more runners up with 61.01%.

Merseyside & Cheshire v Derbyshire

On Sunday, 27th June 2010, Derbyshire 3rd team were away to Merseyside & Cheshire in Birkenhead. Derbyshire had a comfortable win.

Individual 2010

After a recount, John Griffin has won this season's Individual, just 3 Match Points ahead of Don Smedley and Malcolm Young in joint second place.

We all thought Mary Marshall had won. Here she is receiving the Gerry Fletcher Cup from last year's runner up, Richard Edwards.

Our Event Organiser, Adrian Pilling, looks on in relief after the complications of the last rounds were supposedly successfully resolved.

He now owes Mary a large red wine for the hiccup.

Derbyshire v Staffordshire

Another good result for Derbyshire in the 2nd match of the 2010/2011 season.

At home to Staffordshire, the 1st team won 17-3, the 2nd team won 15-5, the 3rd team losing 7-13.

Pachabo 2010

Derbyshire finished just below average in this year's Pachabo Cup. The Pachabo Cup is the EBU's County Teams of Four Championship. The winners of the DCBA's Eric White Cup represent the County in this competition.

Midlands Teams Challenge Bowl

This year the two teams representing Derbyshire were the Don Smedley, Alex Hogg, Mary and David Marshall and the Matlock team of Pat Cardy, David Sewell, Peter Bell and Alan Martin.  Before tea,  both teams had large negative scores.  However, Smedley and co raised their game to score 73 imps in the second half and took second place.  Ironically, their worst match was against their colleagues from Matlock.  Warwickshire won the trophy.
